Steelers Rookie Wide Receiver Could Return In Week 2 After Injury

Will the rookie play for the Steelers this weekend?

The Pittsburgh Steelers could get another key piece back from injury as they aim to start the season with on a winning streak.

Pittsburgh began the season with a win against the Atlanta Falcons. Justin Fields took control of the offense with Russell Wilson sidelined, passing for 156 yards and tacking on another 57 yards on the ground. Although the Steelers didn’t score an offensive touchdown, kicker Chris Boswell hit six field goals leading to him winning AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

The Steelers didn’t produce aside from George Pickens who caught six passes for 85 yards. Van Jefferson and Calvin Austin combined for two catches for only eight yards in the game. Pittsburgh needs receiving help and rookie Roman Wilson could be just what they need.

Wilson could return to the lineup for Week 2 after injuring his ankle during the preseason according to Sports Illustrated’s Noah Strackbein.

“The Pittsburgh Steelers could finally get to see third-round pick Roman Wilson in game action, announcing that the rookie wide receiver is nearly back from his ankle injury and set to play against the Denver Broncos in Week 2, labeling him as questionable,” Strackbein said.

“While he has been back at practice the last two weeks or so, he was never fully available, and the Steelers took the precautionary approach because of it. After missing Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons, Wilson took his final steps forward and progressed into a full participant at practice for the first time and being limited the final day of the week. Now, he’ll head into the game with a window to play.”

Wilson’s return could provide a major boost to the Steelers’ offense. The window is potentially open for him to play as the Steelers take on the Denver Broncos.
