The Pittsburgh Pirates take on the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2025 Spring Breakout game Friday night in Florida. Pittsburgh’s youth is the center of future excitement and there’s a number of high-level prospects on the roster ready to step into the spotlight in this showcase contest.
Young stars such as Paul Skenes already made their way to the show, so here’s three Pirates prospects to watch entering this game:
Bubba Chandler
Pittsburgh’s No. 1 prospect and the No. 15 overall prospect in the sport (MLB Pipeline) should join Skenes and Jared Jones as the future of the rotation this season. His improved arsenal should please the Pirates and his start to the season in Triple-A Indianapolis, where he shined in seven starts a year ago, is an early storyline to watch for Pittsburgh in 2025.
Konnor Griffin
Pittsburgh’s 2024 first-rounder moved past his high school career as the No. 9 pick in the draft. His power and versatile defense are on display early in camp. The Pirates No. 2 prospect could catch some attention Friday night.
Hunter Barco
Barco, Pittsburgh’s No. 7 prospect, lit up the radar gun recently with his sinker up to 97 MPH as the Florida product hopes to find his form in this phase of his professional career as a 2022 draft pick for the Pirates.
