D.K. Metcalf Thrilled To Build Legacy Alongside Steelers Staple

'I'm not trying to take away from anybody's legacy'

The Pittsburgh Steelers officially introduced D.K. Metcalf to the media on Thursday after acquiring the standout wide receiver from the Seattle Seahawks for a pair of 2025 draft picks.

Although Metcalf has worn No. 14 for his entire NFL career, the two-time Pro Bowler will wear No. 4 when he trades in the Seattle navy and green for the Pittsburgh black and gold. The reason for the change is simple, George Pickens has been sporting No. 14 for the Steelers for the last three seasons.

“I mean he’s been here, he’s made a staple in the number 14,” Metcalf said, per team-provided video. “I’m not trying to take away from anybody’s legacy, just trying to help build mine.”

Metcalf added he is thrilled to join Pickens as the Steelers’ top two offensive weapons, even without knowing who will be throwing them the ball.

“Great player watching from afar,” Metcalf told reporters. “The receiver coach calls him ‘Freak Show,’ and I think that’s a fitting name for him with the circus catches that he makes. But I’m just here to try to instill any wisdom or any knowledge that he allows me to and vice versa.”

He added: “I’m a physical receiver, big shoutout to my pops, who was the O-lineman in this league for a little bit. He instilled that in me, and I just try to play the game a different way. God blessed me with the talents and with this opportunity, so I’m not going to take it for granted.”
