Penguins’ Sidney Crosby Can Pass Wayne Gretzky In This Stat

Crosby is on pace to record his 20th point-per-game season

Penguins center Sidney Crosby scored two goals in Pittsburgh’s overtime win against the Vegas Golden Knights.

With 70 points in 65 games, Crosby is on pace to record his 20th point-per-game season, which would break the tie with legendary Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky. Crosby needs just 10 points in the Penguins’ final 15 games to make the point-per-game/season record his own.

Alex Ovechkin may be closing in on Gretzky’s most coveted record — NHL all-time goals leader. The Capitals superstar is just eight goals from tying the 894 Gretzky tallied across his 20-season career. Ovechkin may lead Crosby in goals 886 to 615, but the Penguins star has the edge in points.

The Pittsburgh captain, who has missed just two games this season, leads the team in points and assists (47) and trails only Rickard Rakell in goals. The veteran right wing has six more goals than Crosby’s 23 this season.

Crosby missed the two final Penguins’ games before the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament. He recorded five points for Canada, tied for second overall with Connor McDavid, and added to his legacy as the best hockey player to represent Canada at the international level. Since returning to the Penguins lineup, Crosby has scored six goals and six points in 10 games.
