Steelers Listed As Potential Landing Spot For Veteran Quarterback

Will Pittsburgh move on from Wilson and Fields in the offseason?

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a decision to make at quarterback this offseason.

Pittsburgh brought in quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields last offseason, but both are set to become free agents. Fields excelled as the starter for the six weeks Wilson was injured, leading the Steelers to a 4-2 record. When Wilson returned from injury and started, he led the team to a 6-1 record before losing five straight to end the season, including their loss in the playoffs.

The Steelers were listed as a potential landing spot for Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins if they choose to move on from Wilson and Fields, according to Penn Live’s Nick Farabaugh.

“The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently listed as the favorites to land Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins,” Farabaugh said. “Cousins is likely to be released or traded after a tough first season, and the Falcons may want to move onto Michael Penix right away. Other than the Steelers, the Las Vegas Raiders, Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, and Tennessee Titans are high on the list to land Cousins.”

“Still, the Falcons signed him to a four-year, $180 million contract that made him a highly compensated quarterback. In his one season with the Falcons, he threw for 3508 yards with 18 touchdowns and a league-leading 16 interceptions in just 14 starts.”

Cousins excelled in his first five seasons with the Minnesota Vikings before getting injured in 2023. Though his first season with the Falcons was not his best, Cousins has been a solid quarterback, putting up good numbers for nearly a decade. Cousins would be a great addition to the Steelers if they move on from their current quarterbacks.
