Steelers Listed As Best Potential Landing Spot For Veteran Receiver

Will Pittsburgh finally add a receiver in the offseason?

The Pittsburgh Steelers have actively been looking to add another wide receiver and this offseason may be the perfect time.

George Pickens led the Steelers offense in receiving yards this season with 900 on 59 catches with three touchdowns in 14 games. Behind him, the next best-receiving threat for the team was tight end Pat Freiermuth, with 653 yards. The closest wide receiver to Pickens was Clavin Austin, who amassed 548 receiving yards this year.

The Pittsburgh offense could use another high-end receiving threat to pair with Pickens. The team was actively searching last season, being linked to nearly every major receiver appearing in trade talks like Brandon Aiyuk and Davante Adams.

One option that Pittsburgh was listed as the best potential landing spot for is veteran Buffalo Bills receiver Amari Cooper, according to Pro Football Focus’ Mason Cameron.

“The 30-year-old Cooper will have his fair share of suitors on the open market, likely teams looking to add quality veteran leadership to their receiver room,” Cameron said. “What better place to provide that presence than a team with a history of animated receivers like Pittsburgh?”

“The Steelers were actively shopping for receiving help at the trade deadline, with reports linking them to several options, including the former Brown. Pairing the even-keeled Cooper with George Pickens would be a prudent move to calm the Steelers’ receiver room and split defensive attention.”

After four 1,000-yard seasons in the last five years, Cooper regressed this season, with only 547 receiving yards across his time with the Cleveland Browns and Bills. However, with his four touchdowns this season, he remains a solid, physical deep ball threat who would be beneficial in the red zone. Cooper is bound to bounce back next season and would be a great pickup for the Steelers.
