Justin Fields will be one of the best overall free agents available this offseason.
He started only six games in 2024 as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. While this is the case, he’s just 25 years old and showed some flashes. Before joining the Steelers, he spent the last three years with the Chicago Bears and showed that he can be a capable starter. He was even better with the Steelers but the team turned the starting job over to Russell Wilson.
Both will be free agents this upcoming offseason. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox made a list of the best and worst landing spots for pending free-agent quarterbacks and had the Steelers as the best option for Fields.
“Best Landing Spot: Pittsburgh Steelers,” Knox said. “Justin Fields started the first six games of the season for the Pittsburgh Steelers before they benched him for Russell Wilson. However, there’s a chance that the Steelers will retain him while allowing Wilson to walk in free agency…
“Fields might not want to consider a change of scenery. Pittsburgh gave him an opportunity and he responded well, although not well enough to keep Wilson on the sideline. A second opportunity as the unquestioned starter could be exactly what the 25-year-old needs to salvage his NFL career…Fields hasn’t come close to his NFL ceiling. Continuity could serve him well. He’s already played for three head coaches and three offensive coordinators in his four NFL seasons.”

It absolutely makes sense for the Steelers to bring Fields back and build around him for the next few years and see what the team can do.
