The Pittsburgh Penguins have made a roster move.
Sportsnet’s Elliott Friedman reported on Monday that the Penguins placed 26-year-old forward Jesse Puljujarvi on waivers. The move happens after Puljujarvi has been kept out of Pittsburgh’s lineup dating back to Dec. 7. If the forward clears waivers, he will be assigned to the team’s AHL affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Puljujarvi joined the Penguins in the 2023-24 campaign, signing a two-year contract. In his Penguins career to this point, the forward has played 43 games, scoring six goals, six assists, and 12 points. This season included three of his six goals as well as five assists, totaling eight points over 21 games.
The 26-year-old winger was drafted fourth overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2016 NHL Draft. His career hasn’t hit the stride expected from the draft position — playing in 377 games with 57 goals, 69 assists, and 126 points. Edmonton dealt Puljujarvi to the Carolina Hurricanes in Feb. 2023 before he joined Pittsburgh midway through the 2023-24 season.
A follow-up roster move should be expected for the Penguins after the decision to waive Puljujarvi.
