The Pittsburgh Penguins made a deal early this season with the Nashville Predators and it has been one of the main sparks in the team’s recent success over the last few weeks.
On Nov. 25, the Penguins acquired forward Philip Tomasino from the Predators for a 2027 fourth-round pick. The deal came about as Tomasino, the 24th overall selection in the 2019 NHL Draft by the Preds, no longer had a consistent role with Nashville. It’s paid off big time for Pittsburgh as a result, as the Pens are 9-3-1 since he was acquired and is performing on the ice game-in and game-out.
“I wouldn’t say that I’m the key,” Tomasino said, as transcribed by Pittburgh-Gazette’s Matt Vensel. “But obviously, when your team is winning, it’s a lot more fun to be a part of,” he said. “I’ve had a blast since I’ve been here and I just have to keep it going. I don’t think there are any regrets from my point of view.”
Tomasino has played 12 games for Pittsburgh, scoring four goals, dishing out one assist, and recording five points while averaging 14:20 time on ice — his most since the 2022-23 season.
Pittsburgh will aim to keep the strong play on the ice when they face the New York Islanders on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. EST.
