Steelers’ Aaron Rodgers Opens Up About Uncertain NFL Future

Will Rodgers hang it up?

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ game against the Baltimore Ravens could be the last one of Aaron Rodgers’ career, and he knows it. The 42-year-old is nearing the end of his 21st NFL season, so there’s not much left for him to prove or add to his Hall of Fame credentials.

Rodgers’ one-year contract with the Steelers will expire at the end of the season, leaving his NFL future in flux. He could return to Pittsburgh, try to play somewhere else, or call it a career.

Rodgers isn’t sure yet and will take some time to decide. He’s been very thoughtful about these types of decisions in the past, but it’s something that’s certainly on his mind entering this weekend’s clash with the Ravens.

“I’m 42, and I’m on a one-year deal. You know what the situation is,” Rodgers told reporters on Wednesday. “Whenever the season ends, I’ll be a free agent. That’ll give me a lot of options if I still want to play — Not a lot of options, but … I would think maybe one or two if I decide I still want to play.”

Barring a devastating injury on Sunday, Rodgers is still healthy and effective, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him return for another season. He probably won’t have a ton of options, however, so it will depend if any sound appealing to him.

Time will tell what path Rodgers chooses or if Sunday’s outcome impacts his decision at all. But for now, he’s focused on trying to help Pittsburgh make the playoffs.
