Penguins Have Plenty Of ‘Positives’ After Blowout Win Over Blackhawks

Pittsburgh led 4-0 after the first period

The Pittsburgh Penguins had a stellar 7-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on the road on Sunday.

Pittsburgh played its first game after the Holiday Break as the Penguins came out strong. The Penguins led 4-0 after the first period as Pittsburgh cruised to a lopsided win, which head coach Dan Muse was pleased about, as he believes there are plenty of positives to build on.

“(Playing with the lead), obviously it’s been something that was discussed there over the last month,” Muse said postgame on Sunday. “And I thought we kept playing there. I think obviously, they’re going to make a push in the third period. And sometimes teams will start to try to stretch things out.

“Changes the feel of the game a little bit, but overall, I think more positives than anything to take away from tonight.”

Pittsburgh entered the Holiday break coming off a 6-3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, as the Penguins started strong and played a full 60 minutes. The Penguins were also led by Justin Brazeau, who had a hat trick, as his three goals helped propel Pittsburgh to a big win.

“Obviously, a pretty cool feeling,” Brazeau said postgame about recording a hat trick. “It’s been a long time since I had one of those, so it feels a little weird, but obviously a good feeling for me.”

With the win, the Penguins improved to 16-12-9 and are one point out of a playoff spot. Pittsburgh will return to the ice on Tuesday at home against the Carolina Hurricanes.
