How Steelers Reportedly Plan To Handle DK Metcalf’s Contract Situation

The Steelers can void his guarantees

The Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly reached a significant decision regarding DK Metcalf.

Metcalf will serve a two-game suspension to conclude the regular season following an altercation with a Detroit Lions fan last Sunday. The wide receiver will lose $555,556 in game checks, but the Steelers can also void $45 million in guaranteed money over the next two years.

However, Jay Glazer reported Sunday on “Fox NFL Kickoff” that the Steelers won’t void his contract.

“They’re sticking with DK,” Glazer said. “They don’t want to do something like that. They want to kind of make a long-term commitment to DK Metcalf.”

On “Fox NFL Sunday,” Glazer corroborated past reports that Metcalf had another incident with the same Lions fan. The insider said Metcalf, then playing for the Seattle Seahawks, complained to team security and asked that the fan be removed because of “a very derogatory comment.”

“I’m not going to repeat what the comments are that are on here,” Glazer said when referencing an official security report. “Obviously, we don’t condone ever hitting a fan or anybody else, but in this it says, ‘When we investigated during the game, the individuals around him stated and corroborated that the fan was being out of line and had indeed said these derogatory statements. They even asked us to remove the guy.'”

Glazer added that the Steelers were unaware of that prior incident.

The fan, Ryan Kennedy, denied using any hate speech or racial slurs toward Metcalf in a press conference held on Friday.
