Steelers Sign Wide Receiver Following Injury To Rookie During Training Camp

How will this signing impact the team?

The National Football League season almost is here, with training camp in full swing as teams prepare for Week 1, beginning on September 5th.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in a great position to make a deep run in the postseason this year. They went 10-7 in the regular season last year, making the playoffs and losing in the first round to the Buffalo Bills. Since then, the Steelers have made major changes in order o improve the roster.

The offseason was busy for Pittsburgh as they made major additions, including signing for Russell Wilson and trading for Justin Fields. On the defensive side of the ball, the Steelers traded for Donte Jackson and signed Patrick Queen.

Pittsburgh went all in on the offense in the draft as well, drafting offensive players in each of the first three rounds. The Steelers third round pick, wide receiver Roman Wilson, was showing flashes in the first few days of training camp before suffering an ankle injury which has his status as week-to-week.

Following the injury to Wilson, the Steelers signed another wide receiver according to Myles Simmons of NBC Sports.

“The Steelers have added a receiver as they continue training camp. Pittsburgh announced on Wednesday that the club has signed Tarik Black,” Simmons reported. “Black, 26, entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Texas in 2021. He has spent time with the Colts, Jets, and Ravens over the last three seasons. He’s appeared in just one career regular-season game — with New York in 2021 — making one catch for 10 yards.”

It’s unclear what role Black will serve for the Steelers, but with the departure of Diontae Johnson, there are going to be chances to compete for a role in the offense. Either way, the Steelers are in a great position headed into the preseason.
