Pirates’ Reported Kyle Schwarber Contract Offer Revealed

The Pirates' reported offer had a higher AAV than what he signed for with the Phillies

It was reported on Sunday that the Pittsburgh Pirates offered designated hitter Kyle Schwarber a four-year contract worth more than $100 million.

The National League home run champion is reportedly re-signing with the Philadelphia Phillies on a five-year, $150 million deal instead.

Soon after Tuesday’s news came out, MLB.com Pirates beat reporter Alex Stumpf revealed further details on Pittsburgh’s offer.

“The Pirates were in the running for Schwarber this winter, offering him a four-year deal at $125 million, per a source,” Stumpf wrote.

The Boston Red Sox were among the other teams that reportedly pursued Schwarber.

With the three-time All-Star now off the market, the Pirates could shift their focus back to other big-name bats such as Pete Alonso.

Pittsburgh was also recently linked to one of Schwarber’s Phillies teammates, outfielder Nick Castellanos, who ESPN.com’s Jesse Rogers said “could be the perfect fit” for the Pirates.
