Former MVP Quarterback Lauds ‘Vintage’ Aaron Rodgers Outing In Steelers Win

'I thought he played outstanding'

Aaron Rodgers turned back the clock to spearhead a monumental Pittsburgh Steelers victory over the Baltimore Ravens.

A wrist fracture didn’t stop Rodgers from playing and flourishing in Sunday’s crucial AFC North matchup. The 42-year-old gave Pittsburgh control of the division by completing 23 of 34 passes for 284 yards and a touchdown, also scoring his first rushing touchdown in nearly three years.

Matt Ryan loved what he saw from his former NFC competitor. The retired MVP quarterback applauded Rodgers’ clutch game on Monday’s “Up & Adams.”

“It was his best performance of the year,” Ryan said of Rodgers. “It was the best performance as a Steeler, and they needed it.”

The Steelers rank last in intended and completed air yards per pass attempt this season, but Rodgers dialed up the deep ball on Sunday. NFL Next Gen Stats noted that the four-time MVP completed three passes of at least 20 air yards to DK Metcalf for 121 combined yards. Rodgers had seven such completions in the previous 11 games.

Ryan marveled over Rodgers finding the Fountain of Youth to make downfield magic with his star wide receiver. The Steelers now control their path to an AFC North title after improving to 7-6 with a 27-22 win over the Ravens.

“His go-routes that he threw to DK yesterday were some of the best I’ve seen of anyone this season,” Ryan said. “They looked vintage Rodgers. Taking the air out of the football. They weren’t big high shots; they were line drives that hit right in the perfect spot. I thought he played outstanding yesterday.”
