Coming off his worst season since the 2020 pandemic-shortened campaign, Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos could be on the trade block as the MLB winter meetings begin on Monday.
ESPN.com’s Jesse Rogers linked Castellanos to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday morning.
“How about a bold one: Nick Castellanos gets traded. Perhaps it won’t land as the biggest of surprises, considering how things went down in Philadelphia last year, but a deal would further show that the Phillies are turning things over a bit as they continue to chase a ring,” Rogers wrote. “Castellanos could be the perfect fit for Pittsburgh, which is desperate for hitting. In a recent interview on MLB Network, Castellanos discussed the idea of playing first base. That opens the door to even more possibilities outside of Philadelphia.”
The Pirates have already been connected to a number of big-name bats this offseason, including Pete Alonso, Ryan O’Hearn and Eugenio Suarez.
Even though 2025 was a down year for Castellanos, as he finished with 17 home runs, 72 RBIs and a .250/.294/.400 slash line, he’s still made two All-Star teams — in 2021 with the Cincinnati Reds and 2023 with the Phillies.

His 162-game average across his 13-season career is 24 home runs and 88 RBIs and he’s been very durable over the years, playing in at least 136 contests every season since 2017, excluding 2020.
Castellanos could give Pittsburgh a much-needed power boost in 2026 if the team pursues the 33-year-old.
