The Pittsburgh Steelers benefitted from an unquestionably controversial call during Sunday’s victory over the Baltimore Ravens.
The Ravens appeared to take a one-point lead with just under three minutes remaining when tight end Isaiah Likely hauled in a touchdown pass from quarterback Lamar Jackson — though the ball came loose before he made the necessary third step in the end zone and the pass was ultimately ruled incomplete by referee Alex Moore.
Baltimore, expectedly, disagreed with the ruling.
“I thought it was a touchdown, but the refs made the call they wanted,” Jackson said, as translated by ESPN. “If they believed that was right, you got to go with it. I can’t do the ref’s’ job. It is what it is.”
Ravens running back Derrick Henry, left tackle Ronnie Stanley and wide receiver Rashod Bateman all said they believed it was a touchdown. Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. — who jarred the ball loose — didn’t have much of an opinion, he was just happy with the result.

“I’m just happy they picked no touchdown,” he said.
NFL vice president of instant replay Mark Butterworth explained that overturning the touchdown was correct, while also agreeing with another call that favored Pittsburgh — where an interception was wiped off the board after Aaron Rodgers was ruled to control the ball before having it taken away by Teddye Buchanan.
The NFL often sees technicalities wipe away/confirm odd plays, but few have as big of an impact as the ones we saw on Sunday. The Steelers were on the receiving end, though, so we’re sure they’ll take it.
