The 2025 campaign appears to be slipping away from the Pittsburgh Steelers, but they still have time to right the ship. If they are unable to do so, though, all eyes are going to turn to head coach Mike Tomlin, whose seat has become scorching hot during the team’s recent stretch of losing.
Simply put, the Steelers have not been good enough this season, with their defensive struggles being particularly glaring. Tomlin has faced a lot of heat for Pittsburgh’s woes, and the calls for his head have reached a fever pitch. According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the team has no plans to fire Tomlin, but they do have to make a decision on his contract this upcoming offseason.
“The Pittsburgh Steelers are not going to fire coach Mike Tomlin, but they do have a significant decision to make early next year,” Schefter reported. “After this season, Tomlin’s contract will have two years remaining on it — 2026 and a team option in 2027. But according to league sources, the Steelers must decide whether to pick up the option on Tomlin’s contract by March 1.”
Tomlin is in his 19th season as Pittsburgh’s head coach, but with the team continuing to struggle to make much noise in the postseason, fans are getting frustrated with his lack of progress. A win against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 14 would help quiet some of the noise surrounding Tomlin, but the beginning of the end of his tenure could be underway, even if he doesn’t get fired.
