The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for an important Week 12 contest against the Chicago Bears. Ahead of the game, though, there was some concern that both defensive tackle Cameron Heyward and cornerback Darius Slay would miss this contest. On Saturday, those fears were put to rest.
Heyward missed the team’s first two practices of the week with an ankle injury before logging a limited practice on Friday. Slay, meanwhile, is recovering from a concussion, and while he practiced fully twice to begin the week, he was also limited on Friday. Both guys were initially listed as questionable to play in this game, but their injury status designations were removed on Saturday.
“Steelers upgraded DT Cam Heyward and CB Darius Slay from their previous injury status designation and both are expected to play Sunday in Chicago,” Adam Schefter of ESPN shared in a post on X.
Pittsburgh’s defense hasn’t exactly been consistent this season, which is why having two of these veterans on the field could make a world of difference against a gritty Chicago team. On the other side of the ball, the Bears’ defense is battered by injuries, so this development could help the Steelers in more ways than one.
With the race atop the AFC North division heating up, thanks in large part to the Baltimore Ravens’ return to form, Pittsburgh needs every victory it can get. They will look to earn win No. 7 on the year when this game kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
