Just one week after picking up a major win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 9, the Pittsburgh Steelers came crashing back down to earth in Week 10, as they suffered a 25-10 loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Chargers. The Steelers are still on top of the AFC North, but this is another concerning loss for a team that is struggling to prove it is a legit contender.
Aaron Rodgers is holding down the fort at quarterback for now, but at 41 years old, he’s not the long-term answer here. In the 2025 NFL Draft, Pittsburgh selected Will Howard in the sixth round, but he’s been out since late August after he fractured his hand. Howard has been making progress in his injury rehab, though, and he was officially activated from injured reserve on Wednesday.
“We have activated QB Will Howard to the Active Roster from the Reserve/Injured List,” the team announced in a post on X.
Howard led the Ohio State Buckeyes to a National Championship last year, and while he wasn’t exactly a top-tier quarterback prospect, he showed enough to convince the Steelers to take a flier on him in the draft. Letting him learn from a legend like Rodgers certainly isn’t a bad idea, and he will benefit from getting some live reps now that he’s able to practice again.
Rodgers obviously isn’t going to cede his starting job to Howard, but having him back will allow coaches a chance to see what he’s capable of during practice. This will be an important week of practice for Pittsburgh as the team will be looking to get back in the win column in Week 11 when it takes on the Cincinnati Bengals.
