Steelers Reportedly Missed Out On Rashid Shaheed Trade For This Reason

Shaheed very nearly found his way to Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers were involved in a slew of rumors ahead of the trade deadline, but they ended up standing pat when all was said and done. However, according to a recent report, it sounds like they very nearly pulled off a trade with the New Orleans Saints for wide receiver Rashid Shaheed.

One position the Steelers were looking to reinforce at the deadline was wide receiver, as a secondary playmaker on offense behind DK Metcalf could have been very helpful. Pittsburgh didn’t make a move, but it wasn’t for a lack of effort. Reports indicate the front office made the same trade offer for Shaheed, but he preferred to land with the Seattle Seahawks instead.

“According to a team source, Khan offered the Saints the same package as the Seahawks for wide receiver Rashid Shaheed — a fourth- and fifth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft,” Chris Halicke of DK Pittsburgh Sports reported.

“Shaheed preferred to go to Seattle to reunite with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, whom he played under last season in New Orleans, so the Saints accepted the package that honored their player’s wishes.”

Shaheed’s familiarity with Seahawks’ offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak ultimately ended up being all that separated the Steelers from getting one of the most explosive playmakers in the league. Instead, they will have to make do with the current cast of characters they have on offense. Pittsburgh will be back in action in Week 10 when it takes on the Los Angeles Chargers.
