Report: Steelers’ Week 10 Foe Makes Trade Amid Joe Alt Injury

The Steelers play in primetime on Sunday

The Pittsburgh Steelers face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 10 on “Sunday Night Football.”

Following their acquisition of former New England Patriots safety Kyle Dugger last week, the Steelers stood pat at Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline.

The Chargers, meanwhile, addressed a glaring need, reportedly landing offensive tackle Trevor Penning in a trade with the New Orleans Saints.

Los Angeles lost star offensive tackle Joe Alt to a season-ending right ankle injury on Monday.

“Deadline deal: Saints are trading OL Trevor Penning to the Chargers, per source,” ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter posted on X.

The Chargers are sending a 2027 sixth-round draft pick to the Saints in the deal, according to multiple reports.

Penning, like Alt, is a former first-round draft pick.

The former was selected 19th overall by New Orleans in 2022 out of the University of Northern Iowa.

Penning was limited to six games during his rookie season due to a foot injury but played in all 34 contests across the 2023 and 2024 campaigns. He started just six games in his first two seasons but has been with the first unit in each of his last 23 contests.

The 26-year-old Penning missed the first three games of the 2025 campaign with a toe injury but has played every offensive snap since Week 4.
