Penguins Legend Sidney Crosby Joins Exclusive Club With Latest Milestone

Crosby keeps moving up the leaderboards

Another day, another milestone for Pittsburgh Penguins legend Sidney Crosby.

Crosby — who passed Mario Lemieux as the Penguins’ all-time points leader last week — notched his 1,700th career point on Monday, becoming just the ninth player in NHL history to reach that milestone.

The previous eight were Wayne Gretzky, Jaromir Jagr, Mark Messier, Gordie Howe, Ron Francis, Marcel Dionne, Steve Yzerman and Lemieux.

Crosby, who entered Monday night’s game with 1,698 career points, tallied three in Pittsburgh’s 6-3 home win over the St. Louis Blues. He continued the hot start to his 21st NHL season with his 632nd career goal and two assists, boosting his career points total to 1,701 (most among active players).

The 38-year-old future Hall of Famer has seven goals and seven assists in 10 games this year, helping the Penguins go 7-2-1. His seven goals lead the team, while his 14 points rank second to Evgeni Malkin’s league-best 16.

Crosby’s been extra hot lately with 12 points over his last seven games, including six goals. Not surprisingly, Pittsburgh is 5-1-1 during that span, and he’s a big reason why the team ranks second in the Metropolitan Division behind the New Jersey Devils.

The eight-time All-Star is only 22 points away from tying Lemieux on the all-time points leaderboard. If he stays healthy and continues his current pace, he could pass several more names this year as well.
