There are just two days to go until the 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline.
Major League Baseball clubs already have started swinging trades left and right and it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the Pittsburgh Pirates get in the action in the near future.
Pittsburgh currently has a 52-52 record and has a chance to make it back to the postseason as it is just three games out of a National League Wild Card spot. An upgrade to the offense would do wonders and The Athletic’s Jim Bowden called a trade for Miami Marlins All-Star slugger Josh Bell “possible” ahead of the July 30th Major League Baseball trade deadline.
“He’s getting traded. Why? Because he’s gotten hot at the right time, and he always seems to get traded at the deadline,” Bowden said. “This would be the third year in a row, after being dealt from the (Washington Nationals) to the (San Diego Padres) at the 2022 deadline and from the (Cleveland Guardians) to the Marlins last year. A trade to Boston, Seattle, or Pittsburgh, where he started his career, is possible.”
Pittsburgh certainly is familiar with what Bell can do. He was selected by the Pirates in the second round of the 2011 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft and eventually made his big league debut in 2016. Bell spent the first five years of his big league career in Pittsburgh and earned his lone All-Star nod as a member of the club.

Miami clearly is going to be selling and it likely wouldn’t cost much to acquire Bell. He already has plenty of familiarity with the Pirates. It wouldn’t be too shocking to see speculation pick up over the next few days.
