The Pittsburgh Penguins are currently squaring off against the Columbus Blue Jackets, but before the game on Saturday night, the team officially reopened its Hall of Fame by inducting four new members into the prestigious club. The decision to do so drew reactions from quite a few people, including Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang.
After being dormant for 12 years, the Penguins have brought their Hall of Fame back to life by inducting four new members to the group. The latest inductees are forwards Kevin Stevens and Ron Francis, and head coaches/executives Eddie Johnston and Scotty Bowman.
Unsurprisingly, the move to reopen the team’s Hall of Fame has been well-received. Crosby and Letang, both of whom figure to get inducted into Pittsburgh’s Hall of Fame once their playing careers come to an end, weren’t shy in expressing their excitement to see the Penguins bring this exclusive group back to life.
“It’s really cool,” Crosby said on Saturday. “There’s a lot of history here.”
“It’s great to see what the Penguins are doing … it’s a great moment,” Letang added.

For now, both Crosby and Letang won’t be too focused on their potential Penguins’ Hall of Fame candidacy, as they will simply be enjoying their time on the ice while they still have it. Pittsburgh has jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over Columbus thanks to an early goal from Ryan Shea, and they will aim to hold on for what would end up being their fifth-straight victory.
