Pirates Reportedly ‘Scouting’ All-Star As Possible Trade Deadline Target

The Pittsburgh Pirates will be an interesting team to watch over the next few days.

Pittsburgh is right in the middle of the National League Wild Card race and has the means to make up more ground in the standings and land a playoff spot this season. The Pirates have been great lately and could take another step forward with an offensive addition ahead of the trade deadline.

The Pirates certainly will be busy over the next few days and reportedly have been “scouting” Miami Marlins outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Bryan De La Cruz according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

“The Pittsburgh Pirates are scouting Marlins center fielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. and left fielder Bryan De La Cruz, according to sources briefed on their maneuverings,” Rosenthal said. “Chisholm would make particular sense — the Pirates’ center fielders, primarily Michael A. Taylor and Jack Suwinski, entered Thursday ranked 29th in the majors in combined OPS.”

Chisholm has been one of the most talked about possible trade candidates over the last few weeks. He is just 26 years old and has been named an All-Star already throughout his young career. He is having a solid season for the Marlins and has a chance to tally at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases this year. Plus, he is under team control at an affordable rate until 2027.

De La Cruz also has been great this year and is on pace to top 20 home runs for the first time in his career and could top his career-high in RBIs at 78. Either De La Cruz or Chisholm certainly could give the Pirates’ offense in the outfield a boost.
