The Pittsburgh Steelers are tied for 11th in points per game (25.0) in the NFL under offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, but 25th in total yards per contest (297.5) and 19th in passing yards per tilt (203.0).
They have a clear No. 1 receiver in offseason acquisition in D.K. Metcalf, as the two-time Pro Bowler leads the team in targets (36), receptions (22), receiving yards (406) and receiving touchdowns (four). Metcalf’s yardage total is more than double the amount of any other teammate, however and quarterback Aaron Rodgers could use another top weapon.
Joe Starkey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette answered questions from fans in his weekly mailbag on Tuesday and was asked multiple times about who the Steelers could target ahead of the November trade deadline.
Starkey was first asked, “If you had a choice for who the Steelers trade for at wide receiver at the deadline, who would it be?”
“I mean, A.J. Brown would be nice, Dr. P, wouldn’t he? I’d give up Alex Highsmith, send Darius Slay Jr. back to Philly (although I don’t think they’d want him) and give up a high draft pick to get him — but I don’t think the Eagles will move him,” the columnist and radio host said. “Of the more realistic pieces, I like Jakobi Meyers — more on that later in the week.”

This isn’t the first time that Pittsburgh has been connected to Philadelphia Eagles star wideout A.J. Brown.
Former NFL receiver Chad Johnson recently said that the Steelers could look into acquiring Brown.
Starkey was also asked in his mailbag if the Steelers should “go full Big 12 offense circa 2008, trade for AJ Brown, and just hope to outscore every team on their schedule?”

“Might not be a bad idea, Dr. In, and I alluded to Brown and your idea in the questions above. I just don’t see the Eagles willing to move a guy who helps to separate them at the most critical times,” Starkey replied. “In the two Super Bowls against Kansas City, for example, Brown has nine catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns.”
While the three-time Pro Bowler has had some huge performances since joining the Eagles ahead of the 2022 season, Brown has had a slightly underwhelming start to the 2025 campaign. The 28-year-old enters Week 8 with 29 catches on 51 targets for 395 yards and three touchdowns.
