The Pittsburgh Steelers are moving past an unusual moment from Thursday night’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Late in the fourth quarter, Rodgers connected with tight end Pat Freiermuth to give the Steelers a lead after the ensuing extra point. As the quarterback sauntered back to the sideline, offensive lineman Broderick Jones tackled his veteran teammate to the ground. A visibly upset Rodgers, probably not eager to take any unnecessary hits even in celebration, shoved Jones and appeared to yell at the 311-pound tackle.
Jones laughed off the viral incident on Monday, per The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo, and said he and Rodgers are all good.
“We’re still joking about it,” Jones said. “Yeah, he was a little mad, but it’s all right. It’s football. It gets intense. But there’s still no love lost. It’s just the energy that he brings and that I bring. He told me, ‘Don’t lose the fire,’ and I told him the same.”
Rodgers probably already has enough on his mind while preparing to play his former team, the Green Bay Packers, on Sunday. The 41-year-old may need to watch his back if he registers any more touchdowns in the Week 8 matchup.

“We shall see on Sunday. After he throws another touchdown, I might tackle him again,” Jones said jokingly.
The Steelers may have laughed off the celebration sooner if they secured the AFC North victory, but they fell 33-31 to Cincinnati on the road. Jones and Co. nevertheless kept Rodgers upright, as the Bengals notched no sacks and two quarterback hits.
Rodgers will look to avoid contact from his opponents and teammates when the Steelers host the Packers on “Sunday Night Football.” The game starts at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC.
