What Mike Tomlin Believes Has Contributed To Steelers’ Recent Defensive Turnaround

'I just think we are getting a full complement of guys back'

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense has noticeably turned around its performance over the last two games. Following their 23-9 victory against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, head coach Mike Tomlin gave insight into what he believes has contributed to the improvement.

“I just think we are getting a full complement of guys back, Tomlin said Sunday. “In Ireland, we got Jalen Ramsey back. This week, we got Alex Highsmith and Joey Porter Jr. back. Everybody goes through injuries. I’m not seeking comfort in the lack of availability, but if you’re asking me why we are starting to look the way we desire, it’s because we have a full complement of talent.”

Pittsburgh’s defense has really delivered in the last two games against the Minnesota Vikings and the Browns, allowing a total of 620 yards, while recording 12 sacks, forcing two turnovers and giving up 30 points.

The Steelers certainly benefit from not having faced a top-tier quarterback in their last two games, as they went up against Vikings backup Carson Wentz and Browns rookie Dillon Gabriel, who was making his second career start.

Pittsburgh’s defense looks poised to carry its momentum into the upcoming game against the Cincinnati Bengals, who recently traded for veteran quarterback Joe Flacco to lead their team.
