Steelers Quarterback Gets Jumped, Robbed During Ireland Trip

Skylar Thompson was the victim of a crime in Ireland

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in Dublin, Ireland, for their Week 4 contest against the Minnesota Vikings. The main objective of this trip is for the Steelers to pick up their third win of the 2025 campaign, but they found themselves with a concerning situation on their hands before this game kicked off.

Pittsburgh arrived in Ireland on Friday ahead of their upcoming game, much to the irritation of star quarterback Aaron Rodgers. And just hours after landing, one of Rodgers’ backups, Skylar Thompson, ended up finding himself the victim of a crime in Ireland.

Thompson, who is on injured reserve already due to a hamstring injury, was reportedly jumped and robbed on Friday night in Dublin. The veteran quarterback suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident, and both the Steelers and the NFL are taking a closer look at the situation to see what happened.

“The Steelers’ trip to Dublin wasn’t without some drama: Sources say backup QB Skylar Thompson got jumped and robbed Friday night in Dublin,” Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported in a post on X. “Thompson, who is on injured reserve, suffered minor injuries but is OK and with the team.”

“Statement from Steelers Spokesman Burt Lauten: ‘We are aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin. We will have no further comment at this time as we are working with NFL security to gather more information regarding the incident.’”

Thankfully, Thompson escaped this confrontation with only minor injuries, but it’s still been quite a jarring scene for Pittsburgh to deal with during its international travels. Given that Thompson was already on injured reserve, this attack had no impact on his playing status for Sunday.

On the field, the Steelers have gotten off to a hot start against the Vikings, as they have raced out to a 7-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. They still have a lot of work to do, though, and in the wake of Thompson’s scary robbery, the team will likely be looking to do all they can to pick up a win and return to the United States after this game wraps up.
