New Steelers Defender Gets Candid After Taking Down Former Team

Jabrill Peppers came to play against the Patriots

It wasn’t easy, but the Pittsburgh Steelers prevailed over the New England Patriots in Week 3, leaving Foxborough with a 21-14 victory. The Steelers capitalized on five Patriots turnovers, bouncing back from a 31-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2 and improving to 2-1.

Strong safety Jabrill Peppers played a huge role in Pittsburgh’s win, coming up with a key fumble recovery in the third quarter after tackling New England running back Antonio Gibson. He finished the game with six tackles (two solo, four assisted).

After the game, Peppers explained how it felt to beat his former team after spending three seasons with the Patriots from 2022 to 2024.

“I needed this one. … It feels good right now,” Peppers said. “I had to keep my emotions in check, not letting the moment be too big and let the plays come to you.”

New England surprisingly released Peppers as part of roster cuts on Aug. 29, ending his tenure with the Patriots. The Steelers signed him on Sept. 9 during Week 2.

After playing just seven snaps (all on special teams) during his Pittsburgh debut in Week 2, Peppers started in Week 3 and made an immediate impact against his old team. The nine-year NFL veteran admitted he still has some things to work on and clean up, but he already looks like a great fit for the Steelers’ defense.
