Pirates Young Outfielder Called Possible Trade Chip With Deadline Approaching

Could the Pirates make a trade over the next few days?

The 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline is five days away and there should be plenty of movement across the league.

There have been rumors and speculation building over the last few months and it will culminate in possibly season-changing trades over the next few days. There will be teams that add with the intent of finding a final piece before a stretch run. Struggling teams will offload players approaching free agency in an attempt to bring prospects back to town.

It’s clear there will be plenty of movement and the Pittsburgh Pirates are a team to look out for. Pittsburgh currently boasts a 52-50 record and is just one game out of a National League Wild Card spot. The Pirates are exciting. Pittsburgh is loaded with young talent and it is translating to wins.

Pittsburgh could be in the mix to add this summer, but that also could mean some players on the roster could end up being on the move. The Athletic compiled a list of the most likely players to be traded from each Major League Baseball club over the next few days and Stephen J. Nesbitt mentioned outfielder Jack Suwinski as a trade candidate.

“Moving on? Jack Suwinski, CF,” Nesbitt said. “If you know Suwinski, please don’t screenshot this and send it to him. Forecasting who’ll be traded from a buyer is an inexact science. Pick any top-20 prospect, like Zander Mueth or Hunter Barco. Or pick a young guy who’d clear a 40-man roster spot, like Suwinski. He plays center field and has huge power and a great eye, but the Pirates are running out of reps for a .206 career hitter with a 30 percent strikeout rate in the majors. Some seller would love him.”

Pittsburgh likely will be looking to add in some capacity but a trade would have a cost and Suwinski could be a trade target.
