Steelers Just Miss Out On Top-Five Spot In Latest NFL Power Rankings

Where does Pittsburgh fall in Fox Sports' power rankings?

The Pittsburgh Steelers kicked off the 2025 campaign with a big 34-32 victory over the New York Jets in Week 1. Sure, the game ended up being a bit too close for comfort, but at the end of the day, the Steelers went into enemy territory at MetLife Stadium and kicked off the Aaron Rodgers era with a thrilling victory.

There are some holes that Pittsburgh has to fix, but the good news is that this was only the first game of the season, meaning there’s ample time for the team to improve. The offense, led by Rodgers, largely looked great, but the defense was given fits by old friend Justin Fields in his first start with his new team.

After an explosive offseason of work, the Steelers were widely expected to be one of the top teams in the league, and they lived up to that billing in Week 1. Despite that, they didn’t do enough to earn a top-five spot in Ralph Vacchiano’s power rankings for Fox Sports, as they ended up being ranked No. 6.

“You doubted Aaron Rodgers? Shame on you,” Vacchiano wrote. “He turned in a vintage, four-touchdown performance against his old team. Yeah, he needed a 60-yard field goal to squeak by. But if he’s as good as he was on Sunday, the Steelers will be good all year.”

Even with their somewhat flawed performance, the Steelers got the job done in Week 1 and proved themselves to be a dangerous team. If they can clean up some of their issues on defense, there’s reason to believe that Pittsburgh could work its way into the top five very soon.

Picking up another victory in Week 2 would surely help, and the Steelers will have a great opportunity to do that, as they will be taking on the Seattle Seahawks in front of their home fans on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET, and fans will be hoping the team can put together a more complete performance when they take the field next.
