Steelers Place QB On Injured Reserve, Make Jabrill Peppers Signing Official

Skylar Thompson is headed for IR

The Pittsburgh Steelers did some admin on Wednesday.

Pittsburgh signed safety Jabrill Peppers and cornerback James Pierre to the active roster, while placing quarterback Skylar Thompson and linebacker Malik Harrison on injured reserve — all while adding quarterback Logan Woodside to the practice squad in a flurry of roster moves.

Peppers’ impending arrival was previously reported, while Pierre returns for his third stint on the club’s active roster after previously spending time in the defensive backfield during on-again, off-again stints since 2020.

Thompson made a push to serve as Aaron Rodgers’ primary backup, but ultimately lost out to Mason Rudolph and served as the emergency third-string option during Sunday’s victory over the New York Jets. The Steelers placed him on injured reserve alongside fellow backup Will Howard — with Woodside sliding in as the emergency option until either gets healthy.

Harrison sprained his knee and will not be available to return for several weeks.

The Steelers will continue to move things around throughout the season, but it appears as though everything is accounted for heading into a Week 2 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks at Acrisure Stadium.
