The Pittsburgh Steelers opened their 2025-26 season with a wild Week 1 victory, outlasting the New York Jets 34-32 at MetLife Stadium in Aaron Rodgers’ Steelers debut.
Rodgers shined in his first game for Pittsburgh, slinging four touchdown passes and leading his new team to a fourth-quarter comeback against his old team.
However, Rodgers’ electric performance would have all been for nought were it not for the late-game heroics of Chris Boswell, who drilled a go-ahead 60-yard field goal with just over a minute remaining.
It was a new career-long for Boswell, who also nailed a 56-yarder and converted all four of his extra-point attempts. Now in his 11th NFL season (all with the Steelers), the two-time Pro Bowler proved once again why he’s one of the best kickers in the league.
Mike Tomlin had some hilarious praise for Boswell after the game, likening him to “a serial killer” for his calm under pressure.

“I can’t say enough about (Boswell). Our kicker is a serial killer,” Tomlin said during his postgame press conference. “He’s got a low pulse rate. He can’t wait to deliver.”
Boswell’s praise is well-deserved, as he’s been one of the league’s top kickers for over a decade. The 34-year-old led the NFL in made field goals last season (41) and always seems to come through in the clutch, hitting 88.1% of his career field-goal attempts.
Despite playing in one of the league’s most difficult kicking environments at Acrisure Stadium, Boswell’s been virtually automatic from long range. After Sunday’s performance, he’s now 45-for-54 (83.3%) on career kicks from at least 50 yards.

Boswell is a big reason why Pittsburgh has never had a losing record since he joined the team in 2015. He’ll look to keep his perfect season intact against the Seattle Seahawks at home in Week 2.
