Major league rosters expanded from 26 to 28 on Sunday. The Pittsburgh Pirates used the two spots, one for a pitcher and one for a position player, to recall Nick Yorke and Cam Sanders from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Yorke, a middle infielder, was acquired at the 2024 trade deadline from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for pitcher Quinn Priester. Yorke appeared in 11 games in 2024, hitting .216 with two home runs.
This season, in Triple-A, Yorke has been excellent. He’s slashing .287/.348/.406 in 103 games in Indianapolis, good for a 103 wRC+. He’s played most second base, but also played corner outfield and first base in an effort to become more versatile.
Sanders was briefly on the active roster in 2025. He’s appeared in five games, registered a 9.00 ERA over five innings. Command was an issue as he walked four of the 26 hitters he faced. In 48 minor league innings, Sanders has a 2.25 ERA. He’s shown swing and miss stuff, evidenced by his 30.6% strikeout rate, but also handed out free passes with a 12.4% of hitters.
