The Pittsburgh Steelers have their 53-man roster in place as they head into the 2025 campaign. Leading the charge at quarterback is Aaron Rodgers, who signed a one-year, $13.65 million contract with the Steelers in free agency this offseason after he got released by the New York Jets.
Entering the new season, Rodgers is in a bit of a weird spot. He’s obviously one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, but he’s heading into his age-42 season, which is likely to be his last year in the NFL. After a rough season with the Jets, it remains to be seen how much Rodgers has left in the tank.
One guy who knows what it takes to play at a high level in his 40s is Drew Brees, as he remained a Pro Bowl-level player late into his career. As Rodgers prepares to enter his first season with Pittsburgh, Brees encouraged his longtime rival to embrace the situation he finds himself in with his new team.
“I think more than anything, just being in the moment,” Brees said on “NFL on CBS.” “The opportunity, obviously it’s a fresh start for him, leaving the Jets. He’s going to an organization and a team and a coach in Mike Tomlin that really has an established identity there.”
The Steelers have been a playoff contender for pretty much the entirety of Mike Tomlin’s tenure as the team’s head coach, but it’s been a while since they have truly threatened for a Super Bowl. The arrival of Rodgers has fans hoping that this could be the season where Pittsburgh reestablishes itself as one of the top teams in the league.

If Rodgers can take advantage of the star-studded squad he finds himself surrounded with on the Steelers, they could be one of the most dangerous teams in the league. The hope is that Rodgers can close out his legendary career with a bang, and if he listens to Brees’ advice, he may end up having a good shot at doing so.
