Aaron Rodgers Sees Something Special In Young Steelers Wideout

The second-year receiver has been shining in practices and games

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers believes Roman Wilson is ready to make a leap.

Wilson was taken in the third round of the 2024 draft, but injuries wrecked his first season. An ankle issue cut short his training camp, and a hamstring problem later landed him on injured reserve. By the time he was healthy again, his rookie campaign was gone, leaving him with just a handful of snaps and no real impact.

Now fully available, Wilson has turned heads in practices and preseason work. Rodgers has noticed his approach as much as his production.

“I think he’s improving every day,” Rodgers said, as transcribed by Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “You look at his game the other night, he made a couple splash plays. But we’re going to coach him hard, because the details are what make the difference.”

Rodgers praised Wilson’s potential but emphasized that growth must be steady. The Steelers reshaped their receiver group this offseason, headlined by the addition of DK Metcalf as their new No. 1 and Calvin Austin III sliding in as the next option.

Ben Skowronek provides depth and special teams value, leaving Wilson as the possible X-factor who could change the shape of the room.

Rodgers said he intends to hold Wilson accountable, explaining that the receiver has a chance to be more than just another name on the roster.

“Wouldn’t say anything if we just thought he was going to be a guy,” Rodgers said. “But I think he has a chance to be a big-time talent in the league. So, we’re going to hold him to a high standard.”

After losing his rookie season, Wilson enters year two with both opportunity and expectation.
