Pittsburgh Steelers veteran Cam Heyward remains without a new contract, but the All-Pro defensive tackle made a notable move on Tuesday.
According to a report by ESPN’s Brooke Pryor, Heyward returned to Steelers practice on Tuesday for the first time since beginning a training camp hold-in on Aug. 7.
Pryor wrote that, while Heyward was back in uniform and practicing, a source told her that there “hasn’t been any movement” on the 36-year-old’s request for a renegotiated contract.
The seven-time Pro Bowler inked a two-year, $29 million extension with the Steelers last September, putting him under contract through the 2026 campaign.
Heyward is coming off a career year in 2024, however, and told media members last week that he was “looking to be valued” and it was difficult for him to “really justify playing at the number I’m playing at.”

The Steelers’ 2011 first-round pick finished last season with 20 quarterback hits, 12 tackles for loss, a career-best 11 passes defended (which led all NFL defensive linemen) and 8.0 sacks.
Per Pryor’s report, Heyward’s $14.5 million average annual value is ranked 23rd for interior defensive linemen, according to OverTheCap.com.
