Report: Free Agent Wide Receiver To Visit Steelers Again

Free agent wide receiver Gabe Davis visited the Pittsburgh Steelers in early June.

No deal came out of the meeting, but the 26-year-old deep threat is reportedly scheduled to return to Pittsburgh for another visit on Tuesday.

“Former Jaguars and Bills WR Gabe Davis is flying back to Pittsburgh today and is scheduled to visit the Steelers on Tuesday for a second time this off-season, per source. Steelers continue seeking WR help,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter posted on X.

The Steelers’ search for a reliable second wideout behind offseason signing D.K. Metcalf has been one of the main storylines of the summer.

Among the other pass-catchers expected to join Metcalf in the wide receiver room include Calvin Austin III, Ben Skowronek and Scotty Miller. Roman Wilson, Robert Woods, Brandon Johnson and Roc Taylor are some of the other names in the mix.

Davis spent the first four seasons of his career with the Buffalo Bills after being selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Davis then signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in March 2024 and finished with career lows across the board in targets (42), receptions (20), receiving yards (239) and touchdowns (two), while being limited to 10 games.

The Central Florida product’s never reached 50 catches in a season, but he’s made up for his lack of volume with big deep threat ability.

Davis finished inside the NFL’s top 10 in yards per catch during each of his seasons in Buffalo, including when he was second in the league in 2022 at 17.4 yards per reception. He posted seven touchdown catches in 2020, 2022 and 2023, as well as six in 2021.

Davis also had some huge postseason performances during his time with the Bills, including an eight-catch, 201-yard, four-touchdown effort in Buffalo’s epic overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Divisional Playoffs in 2022.
