The Pittsburgh Steelers took the field for their latest training camp practice on Tuesday as they continue to prepare for their upcoming preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, fans were quick to note that there was a rather unique guest in attendance for this session.
As training camp unfolds, teams frequently invite special guests to attend practices and sometimes speak to the team afterwards. On Tuesday, though, Steelers fans were confused to see the Dallas Mavericks’ wildly unpopular general manager, Nico Harrison, at the team’s latest practice.
Harrison came under quite a bit of fire last season when he decided to trade the Mavericks’ superstar point guard, Luka Doncic, to the Los Angeles Lakers. The deal was considered a massive loss for Dallas, with Harrison become the target of widespread criticism for his handling of the trade.
Early in the NBA offseason, Harrison and the Mavs were dealt a bit of luck when they managed to land the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery, despite having just a 1.8% chance of earning that pick. That gave them the right to draft star Duke Blue Devils prospect Cooper Flagg, which is exactly what they ended up doing.

In the end, things seem to have worked out for Harrison. The Steelers will be hoping things work out similarly for them after their busy offseason, which essentially saw them push all their chips to the center of the table. Pittsburgh earned a 31-25 win in its preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but fans won’t care until they start winning regular season games.
