Another Steelers Veteran Reportedly Seeking New Contract

It's not just Cam Heyward

The Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly have two contract situations to sort out this preseason.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday that star Cam Heyward hasn’t fully practiced in training camp while seeking a restructured contract. Shortly after, the insider followed up to note that another All-Pro wants a new deal.

Chris Boswell is pursuing a new contract with the Steelers as well, according to Schefter.

Boswell has spent the last decade in Pittsburgh. His 88.0 career field-goal percentage ranks fourth all time behind Justin Tucker, Harrison Butker and Eddy Piñeiro.

Boswell has gone each of the last two seasons without missing a field goal within 40 yards, and he’s coming off a career year in which he converted all 35 point-after tries and a league-leading 41 of his 44 field goals. He landed his first All-Pro designation and second Pro Bowl nod.

While routinely reliable from shorter distances, Boswell also flashed a stronger leg by making 13 field goals from 50 yards or deeper. Before 2024, he’d made 30 over nine seasons with a season-high of eight, never even attempting 10 or more.

Boswell has now converted 90 percent or more of his field goals in five of his last six seasons and missed one extra point over the last three years.

A four-year, $20 million contract signed in 2022 made Boswell the NFL’s highest-paid kicker alongside Tucker. However, 10 kickers now have a higher average annual value, per Over The Cap, and seven have exceeded a $20 million total value. Butker became the richest kicker when signing a four-year, $25.6 million contract before the 2024 season.

Neither Boswell nor Heyward has yet to publicly comment on his contract situation.
