Steelers Get Boost With Veteran Guard Returning To Practice

Pittsburgh’s offensive line finally at full strength

The Pittsburgh Steelers got a key piece of their offensive line back on the field Thursday.

Isaac Seumalo returned to Steelers camp on Thursday, rejoining the first-team offense after opening the summer on the non-football injury list, as reported by Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

The veteran left guard had been sidelined with what head coach Mike Tomlin had described as a soft tissue issue.

While Seumalo had not participated in full drills, he remained a visible presence throughout the early part of camp, often working individually and mentoring younger linemen, according to Chris Adamski of TribLive.

His activation now gives Pittsburgh a complete projected starting offensive line as padded practices continue at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvannia.

Seumalo, 31, is entering the final season of a three-year deal signed in March 2023. His arrival as a free agent from the Philadelphia Eagles was meant to stabilize the interior line and he has delivered on that expectation so far.

In 2023, he started every regular-season game for the Steelers and earned a Pro Bowl nod as a replacement. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed just one penalty all year and finished with the 14th-highest overall grade among guards league-wide.

A preseason pectoral injury cost him the first month of the 2024 season, but once healthy, he resumed his role without missing a beat. Despite appearing in only four games before Pittsburgh’s Week 9 bye, Seumalo handled more than 96 percent of offensive snaps in that span, during which he did not surrender a single sack or quarterback hit.

Originally a third-round pick by the Eagles, Seumalo has now logged 52 starts across the last three seasons.

With the rest of the offensive line still on rookie contracts, his experience remains invaluable — especially as the Steelers eye a deeper playoff push in 2025.
