Mike Tomlin Makes Thoughts On Coaching Steelers Extremely Clear

Tomlin isn't leaving Pittsburgh anytime soon

The Pittsburgh Steelers are entering the 2025 campaign looking to make some noise after an explosive offseason of work. And while rumors have swirled around his future with the team over the past few years, head coach Mike Tomlin is set to enter his 19th season in charge of the Steelers.

For the most part, Tomlin has done his job quite well for Pittsburgh in recent years. They haven’t necessarily always had a great offense, especially in the wake of Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement after the 2021 season, but they still have managed to produce a record above .500 during every season Tomlin has been at the helm.

The problem is that Steelers fans aren’t content with that unique streak. They want playoff wins, and Pittsburgh has not won a postseason game since 2016, despite making it to the playoffs five times since. With that in mind, some folks have questioned whether Tomlin is still the right person to lead this team.

Tomlin is still in town, though, as neither he nor the team have shown any real desire to part ways. The veteran head coach knows that chatter will continue to swirl around him until Pittsburgh enjoys more success in the postseason, but he reiterated his desire to remain in town moving forward.

“I love being a Pittsburgher, man,” Tomlin said. “My kids grew up in Pittsburgh, they call Pittsburgh home. I’m proud to call it home. I drink the Kool-Aid.”

With a busy offseason in the books, the pressure is going to be on Tomlin to lead the Steelers to a great season. If he can’t, then the rumors surrounding his future with the team will really begin to rear their head. For now, the vibes in Pittsburgh are great, but it’s going to be on Tomlin and the coaching staff to figure out how to get the best out of their talented roster in 2025.
