Consider Arthur Smith impressed.
The Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator is excited watching Aaron Rodgers zip the football around after the first week of training camp. Rodgers’ behind-the-scenes wits, including his ability to read defenses, also has roused the veteran play-caller.
All things considered, Smith labeled Rodgers as the “perfect fit” for Pittsburgh’s offense entering the 2025 campaign.
“It’s cool because we both have been in a lot of offenses,” Smith told reporters, per Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac. “He’s been the perfect fit for what we want to do, with how we package things, without giving away too much info.”
Smith, who enters his second second with the Steelers, has been impressed by Rodgers’ ability to throw the ball down field and the spin he puts on the football. Smith, to be fair, worked with an aging Russell Wilson and Justin Fields last season so Rodgers presents a noticeable upgrade behind center.

“He still throws the ball, for his age, it’s unbelievable his release and how he generates power,” Smith said. “Father Time gets us all, but you look at the last six games last season, when he’s healthy, he moves around well. That’s what has been impressive.”
Rodgers and the Steelers will continue their training camp work with their preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Aug. 9.
