The Pittsburgh Steelers added a former division foe to their roster on Friday.
Pittsburgh signed safety Chuck Clark, who played his first six seasons for the Baltimore Ravens. The 30-year-old arrived at training camp for Friday’s practice wearing No. 21, courtesy of PennLive’s Nick Farabaugh. Domenique Davis was waived to make room.
Clark spent four seasons at Virginia Tech before the Ravens drafted him with a sixth-round pick in 2017. A full-time starter in his last three years, he recovered three fumbles in 2020, notched his only pick-six in 2021 and collected a career-high 101 tackles in 2022.
Clark tallied 384 tackles, five interceptions, five forced fumbles and 3.5 sacks during his Ravens tenure. He missed the entire 2023 season with a torn ACL before recording 69 tackles in 12 starts for the New York Jets last season.
The 30-year-old joins a Steelers defense that allowed the eighth-fewest points per game (20.4) last season. Yet they permitted the eighth-most passing yards before losing a first-round playoff matchup at Baltimore.

Pittsburgh drastically reshaped the secondary by trading safety Minkah Fitzpatrick in a deal for cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Another former AFC North rival, Juan Thornhill, could take Fitzpatrick’s starting spot alongside DeShon Elliott. He won two Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs before playing 11 games in each of his two seasons with the Cleveland Browns.
Clark provides the Steelers with depth in a room that also features veteran Miles Killebrew, undrafted rookie Sebastian Castro and offseason signing Quindell Johnson. If he makes the team, Clark will see his former team when the Steelers play the Jets in Week 1.
