Steelers Rumors: Insider Predicts More Moves After T.J. Watt Contract Extension

What's next for Pittsburgh after extending Watt?

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ busy offseason continued last week when they signed superstar linebacker T.J. Watt to a three-year, $123 million contract extension. And yet, even with that move in the books, one team insider thinks the front office isn’t done touching up their roster for the 2025 season just yet.

After an offseason full of negotiating and rumors, the Steelers finally agreed to a historic contract with Watt, ensuring he will spend the foreseeable future with the only team he’s ever played for in the NFL. This came on the back of a blockbuster trade that saw Pittsburgh acquire Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith from the Miami Dolphins.

Add in the signing of Aaron Rodgers and another huge trade for DK Metcalf, and it’s been a busy offseason of work for the Steelers’ front office. According to Mark Kaboly of “The Pat McAfee Show,” he believes the team is still looking to bring players to town, even going as far as to predict that a safety would be added to the roster.

“I don’t think Omar is done yet.” Kaboly said on “Kaboly+Mack.” “I think they will acquire a safety at some point.”

As part of the Ramsey and Smith trade, Pittsburgh sent Minkah Fitzpatrick the other way, meaning there’s a big hole to fill at the back of the secondary. If they dip back into free agency, one player who could make sense is the veteran Justin Simmons, who has been linked to the Steelers quite often as of late.

It’s clear that the front office is all in on the 2025 campaign, as they are looking to maximize what is looking likely to be a small championship window with Rodgers under center. So while it may appear that, on the surface, Pittsburgh has crossed off the final item on its offseason to-do list, it may return to the well one more time before the start of the new season.
