Adam Frazier is once again on the move.
The Kansas City Royals acquired infielder/outfielder Adam Frazier from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday, according to the clubs. Cam Devanney, who was recently selected to the major league roster in KC, was shipped off to Pittsburgh.
Frazier, 33, will reunite with a former club for the second time this season, having now made two stops each with both organizations. The Royals saw the veteran struggle to the tune of a .202/.282/.294 slash line in 294 plate appearances in 2024, but things have improved to .255/.318/.336 in 2025. The Pirates had primarily used him in a utility role this season, giving him more opportunities in the outfield over the last couple of months.
Devanny, 28, has spent the majority of the last four seasons in Triple-A, but he’s having the best year of his career thus far, slashing .272/.366/.565 with 18 home runs, 14 doubles, three triples, an 11.8% walk rate and a 24.3% strikeout rate in 288 plate appearances in 2025. The Pirates likely will use him primarily at shortstop — especially if that spot opens up around the trade deadline — but have plenty of roster flexibility as the minor league veteran still has three options remaining.
Frazier signed a one-year deal prior to the season, with the rest of his $1.5 million salary presumably being paid out by Kansas City.
