Penguins Trade Goaltender On First Day Of NHL Free Agency

Alex Nedeljkovic is headed to San Jose

The Pittsburgh Penguins added to their chest of draft picks when they made a trade on the first day of NHL free agency.

Pittsburgh traded goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic to the San Jose Sharks for a 2028 third-round pick, the team announced Tuesday.

The 29-year-old netminder started 35 games for the Penguins during the 2024-25 campaign, serving as the primary backup to Tristan Jarry. During his two seasons with the organization, Nedeljkovic played 76 games with 68 starts. He allowed a 3.05 goals against average and a .898 save percentage during his Pittsburgh tenure.

Pittsburgh now 28 picks over the next three NHL drafts, including 16 selections in the first three rounds. The Penguins currently have nine selections in the 2028 NHL Draft including their original seven picks and San Jose’s third- and fifth-round selections.
