Ex-Steelers Coach Reveals Biggest Career Regret

Todd Haley made this mistake back in 2016

Todd Haley surely has many regrets from his tenure as offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It’s a six-year stint that started in part due to his personal connections, just three playoff wins with an incredibly talented offense at his disposal and a weirdly convoluted firing.

Haley discussed his biggest regret, however, in an interview with ESPN’s Kevin Clark on his “This Is Football” podcast on Tuesday.

“We were playing a game in Pittsburgh,” Haley told Clark. “Us coaches, we think we have all these great ideas. So I’m going to run a little fake jet sweep in a short-yardage situation, and Ben’s gonna fake the jet sweep, and then we’ll throw play-action for a big play to Heath Miller. Ben turned his back to the defense, turned around and threw it right to them.”

Haley’s details were spotty, which we know thanks to some investigative work by Alex Kozora of Steelers Depot. Jesse James was actually the tight end on the play, which came in the famed 2016 “Immaculate Extension” game where Antonio Brown scored a game-winning touchdown to secure a victory over the Baltimore Ravens and win the AFC North.
